As 2020 comes to a close, Youth MP for St. Peter, Mrs. Chaneil Imhoff, has launched the Clarevue Christmas Toiletries Drive. The drive aims to collect Bath Towels,  sanitary napkins, toothpaste, deodorant, and other hygiene items for donation to the Clarevue Psychiatric Hospital.

Imhoff believes that assisting Clarevue with its needs is a non-partisan issue. “This goes beyond political ideologies,” she says. “This is about showing a national commitment to improving mental health services in Antigua & Barbuda.”

The initiative is the first in a series of activities Imhoff plans to use to increase advocacy for Mental Health in Antigua and Barbuda. Chaneil Imhoff is also the author of the Mental Health Bill in the National Youth Parliament. The bill, which is designed to promote and protect the rights of those living with mental illnesses, disorders, impairments, and disabilities, is currently under consultation.

As the holiday season approaches, Imhoff wants to make sure that the residents at Clarevue don’t miss out on the holiday cheer.

Imhoff noted that “Christmas is my favourite time of year. I believe it would be remiss of us not to extend the love and hope the season is known for to the Antiguans and Barbudans living at Clarevue.”

The institution, located on Simon Bolivar Drive, houses over one hundred residents, about forty-five of whom are women.

The Clarevue Christmas Toiletries Drive will run from December 12 to December 23 2020. The public is kindly asked to donate any of the following items:

  • Sanitary Napkins and Tampons
